The Roman Army was famed for its mobility. It could march into enemy territory and set up a fortified camp at the end of each day. One reason it could do this was that it had standardized tents which could be folded up and with the poles, carried on a mule or other pack animal. The tents were leather, usually goat skin. Commander’s tents might be linen or even silk.

It should be noted that these models are accurately sized based on archeological evidence. They might seem a bit small next to your figures, because most figures are larger and bulkier than real people. Also, even allowing for the small stature of people in Roman times, the Roman Legionaries were packed into these tents like sardines!

PaperTerrain offers Roman tent sets in five different scales. They can be ordered as PDF files which you can print out yourself.

The sizes of the tents and the number that come on each PDF sheet are:

6mm Scale: One Sheet with 1 General’s Tents (0.49” x 0.49”), 5 Centurions’ Tents (0.44” x 0.44”), 54 8-man soldiers’ tents (0.44” x 0.5”)
